In celebrating this year’s 67 minutes, the team visited a local day care centre in Luipaardsvlei, Moniq Day Care Center. The organization began in 2008 after the owner witnessed kids from the young age of 2 years tagged along with their mothers in searching for food or recyclable items in dustbins. Owner of the place, Monica, said “that image broke me, so therefore I decided to open a day care center to protect these kids.”
The organization has been operating since 2008 and has now grown, as it now educates kids from as little as Grade RR with the help of 3 other ladies. The center feeds the children 3 times per day, nap during the day and are potty-trained. Impisi Fibre held their Mandela Day, where we were joined by the Ward 16 Councilor, Mr Jonas, and 3 representatives from Impisi Fibre, Sibusiso Khumalo, Amanda Wakeling and Somila Nyamakazi.
The team gave away food parcels to help alleviate hunger in the community, kitchen equipment’s to help with the soup kitchen, cleaning detergents and branded T-shirts were handed out to our future leaders. Needless to say, the event was well attended, and we were warmly received.
We would like to extend our gratitude to our Ward Councilor for joining us, the team at Moniq Day Care Centre for warm welcome and to the team members at Impisi Fibre for constantly availing themselves.
